Neil & David Kidd of Booth Hall, Lancashire, have been feeding DC X-Zel to their close up dry cows for over 7 years.

“X-Zelit works for us, before using it we had a problem with milk fever, the cows had negative energy and were losing condition. Since using it we’ve not had any milk fever, the cows are calving down easier. We’ve also not had any problems with metritis, retained cleansings or clinical signs of ketosis. We’ve no reason to not keep on using it.”

The Kidd’s feed their herd a high straw and grass silage diet. The dry cows have one base diet and X-Zelit is fed as part of the nut - DC X-Zel which is added at 3kg for the last 14-21 days on top of this diet. It’s not just the eradication of milk fever that’s been apparent.

“We’ve noticed cows are fitter, healthier, they don't lose much condition after they calve, right through the lactation."

Their calving index is at 391 days with a conception rate of 44%.

"We have no plans to change the dry cow diet, we certainly don’t want to go back to giving calcium bottles after calving, feeding X-Zelit is so much easier and cost effective in the long term!"
