Before working with Liz we were introducing the calves to a milking cow diet when they were weaned. Liz changed this to a straw and cake diet and we’ve seen great results. DLWG is good, we are gaining an additional 0.15kg and they are growing into a good frame rather than being pot-bellied.
Feeding the dairy cow - yeasts
The dairy cow diet requires yeasts to maintain a healthy rumen, critical in delivering milk yield and overall cow performance. With independent research and testing, our team will help select proven live yeasts. It’s important to ensure that the product delivers the maximum number of live yeast cells to the digestive track of the animal.
If you herd suffers from conditions such as acidosis, yeasts can be used to help balance the rumen pH.
Triggers of acidosis may include:
- High levels of fermentable carbohydrates
- Finely chopped forages
- Poorly fermented forages
- Low levels of structural fibre
- High concentrate use
- Spring grass
